That is why ultraviolet wastewater disinfection is a mandatory final stage at modern treatment facilities.

The system ensures sanitary safety without the use of chemical reagents and without altering the physical and chemical characteristics of the treated effluent.

The disinfection effect is achieved through exposure of microorganisms to ultraviolet radiation.

Under UV light in the 200–300 nm wavelength range, the DNA and RNA of pathogenic organisms are damaged.
As a result, they lose their ability to reproduce and become biologically inactive.

Structurally, a wastewater disinfection unit includes:

• Treatment chamber made of AISI 304 stainless steel
• Quartz sleeves
• Germicidal UV lamps
• Automated control cabinet

The flow passes through the treatment chamber under pressure.
Radiation is distributed evenly across the entire cross-section of the stream.

The quartz sleeve protects the lamp from direct contact with the liquid and maintains high UV transmittance.
To ensure stable performance, a periodic cleaning system is provided to prevent scaling and deposits.

It is important to understand:
this is not simply “a lamp inside a pipe.”
It is calculated hydraulics + controlled UV intensity + defined contact time.

UV disinfection units are installed downstream of secondary clarifiers or tertiary filtration systems.
