Sealless pumps are used for transferring aggressive, toxic, explosive, flammable, and high-value process liquids in the chemical, petrochemical, and oil refining industries.
In these sectors, the working medium often consists of complex mixtures such as:
- chemically active solutions
- acids and alkalis
- solvents
- hydrocarbon compounds
- volatile and toxic substances
For this reason, conventional pumping equipment cannot operate reliably in such conditions.
Any leakage of process fluid is not just a technological issue.
It represents a risk to personnel, equipment, and the environment.
Therefore, sealless pumps are used in these applications. Their design completely eliminates leakage of the working medium.
Such equipment ensures safe transportation of technological fluids even under conditions of high temperature, aggressive chemical environments, and continuous industrial operation.
These pumps become a key component of technological processes in chemical plants and oil refineries.
THE PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
The main feature of sealless pumps is the absence of mechanical shaft seals, which in conventional pumps are the primary potential leakage point.
Instead, a completely sealed design is used together with special sleeve bearings engineered to operate in aggressive process environments.
The bearings are manufactured from silicon carbide, a material known for its exceptional wear resistance and chemical stability.
Such bearings are capable of operating:
- at working fluid temperatures up to 300 °C
- in contact with acids and alkalis
- in abrasive fluids
- in flows containing solid particles
Even when solid particles enter the bearing assembly, wear remains minimal due to the high hardness and abrasion resistance of silicon carbide.
In addition, the material maintains stable performance characteristics even during prolonged contact with hot water up to 240 °C.
Thanks to these properties, the pumps can reliably handle:
- corrosive liquids
- high-temperature heat transfer fluids
- chemically active media
- high-concentration process solutions
Hermetic design
Complete elimination of leakage thanks to the sealless construction.
Operation at high temperatures
Capability of operating with fluid temperatures up to 400 °C without the need to create high system pressure.
High thermal stability
Thermal oils maintain stable properties even during long-term operation in high-temperature conditions.
No corrosion or deposits
Construction materials are resistant to aggressive media and do not require special preparation of the heat transfer fluid.
Long service life
Uniform operating conditions reduce mechanical stress and increase equipment lifespan.
Energy efficiency
Heat transfer fluids can be used both for heating and for removing excess heat in exothermic processes.
